Just got back from seeing Sweeny Todd with Johnny Depp. Fantastic I say. Beautiful sets, if you like the dark dingy look of London---never been there by the way, and surprisingly its not on my top list, but is on the list.
However, I was truly blown away by Helena Bonham Carter. By far one of my favorite actresses of the modern screen. She takes on roles that she really works to achieve everything that embodies the character. I love that.
Take for example Fight Club. Great book, you read the book and wonder, how can anyone possibly portray these twisted charachters, but she did it, and beautifully while being a pill addicted, meal stealing, cig smoker!
I can barely stand her as the witch in Big Fish (my favorite movie EVER from my adult life) because she is so convincing, and then so wonderful as the woman who was in love with the stranger that appeared in her town as a child.

In Sweeny Todd she makes the role of Mrs. Lovett so believable! You become engrossed in her love for Sweeny Todd, and when you realize she's taken on a mother's role to Toby it's beautiful. She doesn't know how to tell him the truth, and she doesn't know how to lie to him. Then to have lied the whole time is amazing. Her costumes were beautiful and she did a fantastic job with the vocal work for the roll.
Maybe all in all, it makes sense that she is married to Tim Burton. She plays such twisted rolls in a beautiful way. Not ordinary beauty. she's not the skinniest of women, and she's not the most beautiful, but she is at the same time beautiful. As I was watching the movie I couldn't help but to think how mcuh she looks...AND reminds me of my dear friend Calle. I've always thought Calle was one of the most beautiful people I know, in and out, but I swear every close up of HBC, all I could think was "CALLE!!??" and she'd probably marry someone like Tim Burton!

I wonder what the Burton-Bonham Carter Dinner table is like?
